Liberty = London

Liberty is one of the greats when it comes to London department stores (maybe the greatest?).  Their interior furnishing, fabric and wallpaper departments are particularly good.  Here are a few Liberty fabric prints that I’m loving…

Vonetta B Tana Lawn by John Squire

A Boy Dreams  C Tana Lawn by Graham Coxon

Cristian Zuzunaga PIXELATED.

I love this fabric.  I especially love this fabric on these Ligne Roset Sala dining chairs.  I’m trying to hunt down a stockist who still carries it.  Can anyone help me?!  Life and death, people, life and death.

hawaiian quilts are a must.

When researching room designs, I kept seeing these amazing, two-tone quilts.  About a zillion hours of searching the internet later, I’ve learned that they are Hawaiian, which makes me like them more.  (Nothing makes less sense than quilts in Hawaii, but go with it.)  There are loads on the inter-web, but here are a few inspirational photos as well as affordable purchase options.

I blogged this image a few weeks ago.  It was responsible for kicking off the obsession:

And here are two quilts I found on Etsy:

Both from Etsy – green and blue.

seeing spots

I am loving the Cruella de Vil look right now –  which is to say dalmatian spots! *

sofas and cushions from Furbish Studio (a fab American shop with which we probably have an unhealthy obsession)

dalmatian curtains from Furbish owner’s home (posted in her blog, isuwannee)

Kelly Wearstler for Lee Jofa linen fabric (I neeeeed)

my new Topshop loafers (the only shop in the entire UK that does this print acceptably — nevertheless they spell dalmatian wrong)

* No animals were harmed in the creation of this post.

holy parker palm springs

A good friend told me that when I finally get out to Cali for Coachella (someday) we are staying at the Parker Palm Springs.  I also wonder, can I live there?

Who designed the hotel you ask? Why, Jonathan Adler of course.

red and green…. not just for Christmas

The ogle fest at Soho House left Jessica and I feeling oh-so-inspired.  Exhibit A: Colonista Jess toning with the Soho House colour scheme…

Even her hair and eyes match!  That is one clever designer!

I mentioned in that blog post that the pervading colour scheme was a turquoisey-sea green and coral-mauvy-red.  Who would have thought that the usually garish red and green colour combination could be transformed into something sooooo lovely?  Just change the tone of the colours and viola!  Or don’t – the primary versions of these colours can be quite chic together with the right touch.

Now – how you can be a little like Jess:

Buy a print, the subject of which looks alarmingly like Jess….

…buy one of these plates in Positano, Italy….

…. paint your walls coral red and buy some turqouise foo dogs ….

….use one colour to lead to another….

…or use accents of red and green in primary with neutrals….

Now, have we all learned something today?

serendipity.

walking home from the shop with my groceries this morning, i noticed something serendipitous happening with my dress and my fabric shopping tote.  they shouldnt really go together, but i’m liking it.

the purple dress is a second-hand find from Austin, Texas and the red star bag was free with a purchase a zillion years ago at Kath Kidston.  here’s to beautiful things on the cheap!

To animal print, or not to animal print?

This little animal print chair mixed with more structured minimal artwork works wonders.  I want it.

Here’s another one…I’m not so much digging the rug, but the little splash of animal print on the chair in an otherwise quite muted space allows you to appreciate it all the more.

Crazy fabric is a good thing.

My husband, who is South African (cute accent and all), and I went to South Africa this past December-January.  I found this crazy delicious Julie Juu for Shine Shine fabric at a small market in Plettenberg Bay that I absolutely love.  It successfully mixes hissing snakes and cats, skulls, nuns, roses, limosines and scooters.  I meannnnn, what’s not to like?  I’m thinking a pillow is in order, or perhaps recover a small footstool?
